Are other people successfully building CentOS-6.6 x86_64 appliances with vmware-studio?

I was finally able to build a CentOS-6.6 x86_64 appliance in vmware-studio after I added i686 glibc and zlib.

and now when I boot the appliance I can not use vamicli for upgrade.

Can anyone offer any suggestions for me so we can upgrade these appliances? - thanks

(we are currently using CentOS-6.6 i686 successfully)

I also attached:  /opt/vmware/var/log/vami/vami-sfcb.log

Taking user inputs while deploying VM/vApp

Hi,

We would like to build a windows 2008 appliance, with our product installed and configured. Our product need some application variables/parameters which change from deployment to depolyment (like IP, tomcat port, custom timezones, organization name etc. to generate SSL certs ) .

Is there any way can I take these inputs from user (while depolying the VM) and provide them as inputs to my application ?

I have gone through the OVF environemnt variables and configured few custom variables via Studio -> Output -> OVF Properties -> OVF Environment.

Built VM with this settings. When I open the .OVF file, the custom variables I added, appeared at VirtualSystem -> ProductSection as 'Property' elements portion. (i'm expecting them as 'Evironement' elements).

When I try to deploy this VM I expected it will ask for user inputs, but it never asked.

Please suggest me a way to get the application inputs from user, before deploying the VM. I'm using Studio 2.6 and ESXi4.0 as deployment environment.

Thanks in advance.

build the new virtual appliance based on CentOS7 failed

Hi all:

I want to create the new virtual appliance based on CentOS 7, but when I build it, it fails

The error message as below image:

The transient VM network address could not be discovered.

Here are some possible reasons for the failure:

- The VM failed to obtain a network address if it is configured to run on a DHCP network;

- The VM ran on a network that could not communicate with the Studio;

- The VM failed to report its network address to Studio through its web server (port 80)

buildfail.png

The ESXi IP address is 172.18.139.219(static IP).

The VMware studio IP address is 172.18.139.100(DHCP). I also try to set the VMware studio IP address to 172.18.139.221(static IP), but it still failed.

This is my network configure

I set the platform to ESX/ESXi 5.0 in the Build Settings, There are only one network : VM network

So, My Build settting is as below image, I also try to change the Network Label from "VM Network" to "Management Network", it still failed

buildSetting.png

I have no idea why the built failed??

I also try to set the virtualization Platform to "VMware vCenter 5.0",My vcenter server IP address is 172.18.139.105

I choose the "Storage" to "esxidata". the "esxidata" is the QNAP NAS storage

But the build failed  also

Hello Studio Community,

As many of you know, Studio has not been updated since 2.6 was released on 2012-03-08. As it stands today, VMware has no plans to update 2.6. If you currently use Studio or have used Studio in the past but stopped due to lack of support for updated OSes, etc., please respond to this post.

  1. Do you currently use Studio?
  2. Did you use Studio in the past but stopped due to lack of support?
  3. How \ why does you organization use Studio? What is the value add?
  4. Have you found an alternative? If so, what is the name of this solution?
  5. Which updated features would you most like to see Studio support? RHEL7\CentOS 7, updated Virtual Hardware?
  6. Additional comments or notes

I am gathering this information to get a better understanding of how the lack of Studio updates has effected our user community.

Regards,

Is there an alternative for VMware Studio that would allow to build a virtual appliance based on CentOS7?

Hi @ll,   We are trying to build a vApp with VMware Studio based on CentOS 7. Unfortunately latest version of Studio is not supporting CentOS 7.  Does anyone know some alternative that we could use to create virtual appliance, customize it and use CentOS 7 in the same time?   Any help would be greatly appreciated.   --  Best regards  Zbigniew

Update VMware Virtual Appliance

I read @WilliamLam 's blog post : www.virtuallygh...appliances.html. And I have tried the "vamicli update --check" commandline as well as modifying the /opt/vmware/var/lib/vami/update/provider/provider-runtime.xml.

  1. With "vamicli update --check", I get an error saying Internal error. Please make sure sfcbd is running. And that stays the same even if i restart my sfcbd and made sure it restarted properly without any errors.
  2. With /opt/vmware/var/lib/vami/update/provider/provider-runtime.xml, there's no option to specify the time for the update if I want to turn auto update on.
    Can someone help me?

Is it safe to say this project is really dead?

Is this product dead?

Is this product officially EoL,  there have been no updates, new templates for modern OS'es or newer virtual hardware support since vSphere 5.5.  this tool is very useful,  how about putting it in the Cloud business unit as an additional benefit of VCPP's to allow them to easily create multi tier vApp Templates for their Catalogs?
